SPIKES ESTATE

COUNTRY: Kenya

REGION: KIAMBU COUNTY

Nestled in the highlands of Kiambu County near the Aberdare Ranges, Spikes Estate sits at an elevation of 1700–1800 meters above sea level, prime coffee-growing altitude. This small, family-owned estate was founded in 2012 by Manasseh Kiboch and his wife and has since grown to over 15 acres spread across three plots. The farm benefits from deep red volcanic soils, cool mountain air, and over 1400mm of reliable bimodal rainfall annually.

SL28

SL28 is a renowned Kenyan coffee varietal prized for its bright acidity, juicy body, and complex fruit flavours. It showcases notes of blackcurrant, citrus, and tropical fruit with a wine-like sweetness. Typically suited for filter brewing, SL28 delivers a vibrant, aromatic cup with excellent clarity and a long, sweet finish.

Washed

During the wash method, the outer skin and pulp of the coffee cherry is removed through depulping, leaving behind the mucilage-covered beans. The beans are then fermented to remove the mucilage before being washed and dried.
