THE GROWER

LOS NOGALES

REGION: HUILA

Nearly 80 years ago, Ricardo Hernández and Concepción Castillo set out to build a life at Los Nogales, a farm in Pitalito, Huila. Their dream was to create a legacy in the world of coffee, a vision that was passed down to their children. Among them, their son Ricaurte Hernández became a key figure in their journey, winning first place in Colombia's "Cup of Excellence" in 2005. After Ricaurte tragically passed away in 2013, his youngest son, Oscar Fernando, decided to honor his father's legacy by taking over the farm and expanding their vision. Oscar’s focus on sustainable practices, technological innovation, and environmental conservation has transformed Los Nogales into a leading center for high-quality coffee production, all while preserving the family’s deep-rooted traditions.

VARIETAL

Typica

Typica is a classic Arabica varietal known for its exceptional cup quality, offering a clean, sweet, and well-balanced flavour profile. Its tall growth and elegant characteristics make it a favourite among specialty coffee producers seeking clarity and refinement in the cup, with a strong heritage in coffee history.

PROCESS

Washed

During the wash method, the outer skin and pulp of the coffee cherry is removed through depulping, leaving behind the mucilage-covered beans. The beans are then fermented to remove the mucilage before being washed and dried.
