COUNTRY: Kenya

REGION: Nyeri

Situated at the foot of the Karima Forest Reserve, just northeast of Othaya Town, Thuti Factory is one of the smaller washing stations within the celebrated Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS). Founded in 1958, Thuti brings together around 380 smallholder farmers, each cultivating small coffee plots in the fertile highlands of Nyeri County – one of the most distinguished coffee regions in the world. At 1,700–1,890 metres above sea level, the farms benefit from cool temperatures, steady rainfall and rich red volcanic soils that provide the ideal conditions for slow cherry maturation and exceptional flavour development. Nyeri coffees are celebrated for their vibrant acidity, juicy sweetness, and layered fruit character, and Thuti exemplifies this pedigree beautifully – offering notes of blackcurrant, citrus, and red berries, balanced by floral aromatics and a crisp, wine-like finish.

SL 28

SL28 is a renowned Kenyan coffee varietal prized for its bright acidity, juicy body, and complex fruit flavours. It showcases notes of blackcurrant, citrus, and tropical fruit with a wine-like sweetness. Best suited for filter brewing, SL28 delivers a vibrant, aromatic cup with excellent clarity and a long, sweet finish.

Washed

During the wash method, the outer skin and pulp of the coffee cherry is removed through depulping, leaving behind the mucilage-covered beans. The beans are then fermented to remove the mucilage before being washed and dried.
