ELIDA ESTATE

COUNTRY: Panama

REGION: BOQUETE

The Lamastus family has been cultivating coffee at Elida Estate since 1918. Now run by three generations—grandfather Thatcher, his son Wilford, and grandson Wilford Jr.—the farm is renowned for its high-quality coffees, consistently featuring in the "Best of Panama" competition. Nestled near Volcan Baru National Park, part of the estate lies within this protected World Heritage site, which serves as a sanctuary for native flora and fauna, including the tropical tiger. While the park area is a preserved forest reserve, the remaining 35 hectares of the estate are planted with Catuai, Geisha, and Typica varieties.

Catuai

The Catuai variety is a hybrid of Mundo Novo and Red Caturra, created by the Instituto Agronômico de Campinas in Brazil. This robust, compact plant produces both yellow and red cherries, making it a versatile choice for coffee cultivation.

Anaerobic Natural

Anaerobic Fermentation seals de-pulped coffee beans in oxygen-free tanks, allowing anaerobic bacteria to ferment the remaining mucilage. This method gives coffee a distinctive, complex flavour with enhanced sweetness and acidity.
