Carmelita

COUNTRY: Bolivia

REGION: Caranavi

Caranavi is known as the epicentre of Bolivia’s specialty coffee production, thanks to its high altitudes, rich soils, and broad temperature swings — conditions that nurture slow cherry development and exceptional cup complexity.

Carmela moved to the region at the age of 25 and has since spent nearly five decades working in coffee, while raising eight children. Her farm, Carmelita, spans about three hectares, set on steep terrain between 1,400 and 1,550 metres above sea level. Because of the region’s mountainous landscape, the property is terraced into five distinct “floors,” connected by narrow corridors that make harvesting more efficient.

Carmela’s meticulous handpicking and careful attention to drying produce a coffee that truly expresses the terroir of Caranavi — bright, expressive, and full of character.

Caturra (Arabica Bourbon)

Caturra is a natural mutation of the Arabica Bourbon coffee plant, characterised by its short stature and high yield. Originating in Brazil and thriving at higher altitudes, it produces a balanced cup with bright acidity and complex flavours.

Anaerobic Washed

Anaerobic Washed processing combines anaerobic fermentation with thorough washing to remove all mucilage. This results in a clean, complex coffee with bright acidity and unique fermentation flavours.
